Insights I’ve Learned About Startups and VC from Genesis Accelerator

1. As a Founder – Focus on 3 Main Priorities

Build a Vision, Growth Drivers, and an Air-Tight Strategy

Focus on the company’s future by creating a strong vision, identifying growth drivers, and crafting a solid strategy.

Ensure Money Will Flow Into the Company

Work on securing funds, finding angel investors, and generating revenue streams.

Convince the Most Relevant People to Join Your Mission

Recruit individuals who align with your goals and can push the company forward.

2. When Pitching to Investors – Be Ready to Answer These 3 Questions Well

  • “Why Now?”
  • “Why Us?”
  • “What is the BIG OPPORTUNITY?”

3. Branding is the Foundation of Your Company

Look impressive on your website, in investor presentations, emails, headlines, and every external message you send.

4. Don’t Target Israeli Customers

Unless your target audience is Israel. If you aim for the US market and want to raise funds from investors, write LOIs and design partnerships tailored to the US market, not Israeli clientele. (This advice depends on your target market and isn’t relevant for every company or industry.)

5. The Startup Ecosystem – The Most Supportive in the World

Here, you have founders, investors, and even competitors who will gladly help and support your journey. At Genesis, we have over 80 mentors who have presented to startups and shared their knowledge and experience. Learn from mistakes and from other leaders in the global startup world. The accumulated knowledge in Israel is one of the most valuable assets we have in our small country.

Bonus: Embrace the Fact That You Are Going to Make Mistakes and Face Challenges

There will be many things outside of your control, and the journey is more like Luna Park: even if you try to control the situation and do your best, things will not always go as expected. Choose a unique path, be aware of this, and enjoy the unexpected things that will come your way. You don’t know where this will lead. Take care of your spirit, and don’t stress yourself too much.

Important Note

Take all my advice (or anything else in this field) with a grain of salt and always filter it within the limits of your own knowledge. Ultimately, you know yourselves and your capabilities best.
